| Area: |
NSW |
| Notes on Cost: |
The cost of a master Licence varies according to the State under consideration.
NSW is for sale at $170K
This includes:
Licence Fee, Cost of Vehicle and Initial Stock.
Working capital requirements on top of that would depend on how quickly the master gets the business going. However it may take up to twelve months to break-even.
Vic and Queensland $135K,
Western Australia $120K and
South Australia $100K.
Tileworks franchises would sell for $65K plus GST to include a vehicle and starting stock. This fee would be split 80/20 in favour of the master.
Initial training costs are allowed for within the purchase price at the franchise master and the franchisee level.
STOCK NEEDED:
Regularly sold standard product lines should be readily available to customers from your inventory. In the early stages of your business this need not be a large stock holding but as your business grows you will need to hold stock appropriate to your client base. The value of this stock will vary between territories and is best calculated from your business plan.
Most TileWorks products are sold as concentrates to the TileWorks franchisee so relatively small quantities go a long way. Some of these liquid chemicals are classed as dangerous goods so need to be located in a secure facility and in accordance with all local ordinances.
Safety Step International will warehouse a stock inventory on-shore in Australia. This will allow for fast delivery to the franchise operators and alleviate the need for franchisees to hold large amounts of stock. A stock holding of around $10,000 would be adequate initially and this is on top of the purchase price.
VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS:
Assuming the master will be operating at tileworks business from the start, they will be required to have their own late model vehicle and sign writing is mandatory. If the Franchisee intends undertaking the applications or contracting activities with direct employed staff then a commercial vehicle such as a van would be also be required. Other vehicle requirements will depend upon the business structure you elect to put in place. Minimum requirement for a contractor is a late model station wagon. |

| Business Established: |
The principals of Tileworks have now been trading in the underfoot safety and pedestrian movement sector for more than fourteen years. The current managing director, Mr Steve Quinn, is the original founder of the company and has overseen growth that now sees Tileworks operating in seven countries with manufacturing facilities in both New Zealand and Australia.
Tileworks was initially conceived by Steve to meet an emerging underfoot safety market he recognised as under supplied and poorly understood. It is a wholly New Zealand innovated and owned company but now with joint venture partners emerging around the world. Growing from very small beginnings with only two people and an initial offering of only a few specialist products, the company has been carefully developed into a complete manufacturing and marketing unit offering a very wide and effective range of products and services.
TileWorks was first launched in New Zealand in 2004 and since this time has proved to be a very successful franchise business throughout New Zealand.
Steve Quinn, the managing director of Tileworks has prior senior managerial experience in both the commercial cleaning and the construction industries spanning some 10 years with a further 10 years experience in international safety product development. He is often called upon to advise in a consultancy capacity on matters relating to underfoot floor safety and general floor care. The company has specialised equipment to test flooring materials to meet the anti-slip requirements and building codes. This knowledge has led to his involvement at regulatory authority level including participation on Australasian committees forming national standards.

| Company Outlets: |
|
| Franchised Outlets: |
There are numerous franchisees, based throughout New Zealand. |
| Franchise Established: |
Tileworks was first established in NZ in 2002. |
| Franchise Territory: |
A Master Licensee will be granted a territory being their State. Then it will be up to the master to recruit franchisees who will be given territories according to scientific planning already undertaken by the Tileworks.
As an example Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong have been broken up into 21 territories, with each territory having approximately 220,000 population. This franchise will do better in an area with higher household income. Each territory has been adjusted for income so as to bring about a result where each franchise territory within the Sydney Newcastle and Wolllongong area has approximately the same potential as any other.

| Bank Accreditation: |
There are no arrangements in place for bank accreditation in Australia. |

The Market Place
In most developed countries the accident statistics for injuries caused through slipping and falling are remarkably consistent and typically show that the greatest single cause of injury accident is in fact caused by slipping and falling on quite ordinary floor surfaces.
In Australia the cost to employers and to the nation of such injury accidents is estimated to exceed 3 billion dollars each year and is greater than any other single cause of accident injury. In fact statistics show that 65% of all reported public liability accidents are preventable slip and fall accidents and of those claims at least 86% of all falls have extrinsic causes that are preventable.
These accidents occur under very ordinary circumstances on very ordinary floors and do not discriminate between young or old, male and female. They occur at home, at work, at school, and in public places everywhere.
Certainly in the home environment and in the retail and commercial sectors, a principal cause of slip and fall accidents is wet, smooth and slippery tiled or concrete floors. TileWorks has developed a highly effective range of anti-slip solutions that alleviates risk in almost all of these situations.
Rather than offer one fix-all product as is the case with some companies, TileWorks has worked hands-on in the market to understand the complex and diverse nature of these problems and then develop a range of sensible, practical and highly effective solutions. These include proprietary chemical anti-slip solutions that create a highly effective yet discreet anti-slip character on glazed and unglazed tiles, marble tiles and laid concrete floors.
Additionally, TileWorks can offer surface mounted abrasive products where appropriate.
Changing design trends and lowered material costs has encouraged the widespread use of hard surface floor surfaces such as ceramic and porcelain tile, natural stone, terracotta, polished and plain concrete, brickwork and pavers. These floor surfaces, both with new and existing floors, usually require specialised sealing to protect their beauty and character and careful cleaning to remove construction soiling or to recover the original qualities. This work is typically well outside the capabilities handymen, usually beyond the scope of commercial cleaners and not often catered for by specialist companies but does fall well within the operations of TileWorks. Most often cleaning and sealing operations are required as a companion solution and can represent very solid repeat business. All of these operations are very specialised and commonly it is hard to locate providers so typically they command high returns to operators with hourly rates as high as 5 to 10 times that of accepted tradesmans rates.
A range of ready to use branded retail floor maintenance products also feature in the product range and present a further value add opportunity to the Master Franchisee.
Graffiti is an unstoppable scourge on the landscape and features in almost every location in every town and city. The prevention and removal of graffiti is a constant and expensive issue for property owners and territorial authorities. Sealing of vertical surfaces to facilitate the easy removal of graffiti is a small step from the sealing of horizontal floor surfaces to prevent staining and marking, so graffiti protection and removal systems fit extremely well with the TileWorks business and represent a high earning and repeat business opportunity. TileWorks has cutting edge technology in anti-graffiti sealers for stone, concrete and painted surfaces that work in conjunction with excellent graffiti removal solutions.
Tileworks is now moving to build on current success with the TileWorks business in New Zealand and expand through placement of Master Licensees in all States of Australia.
